As for wardrobe, here are some tips as well. I strongly suggest using these guidelines, as this is how we can achieve my photographic style, and also to keep the focus on you.
The goal is to ensure the focus remains on your face and expressions, not the outfit.
Main Focus
Focus on Your Face: Your wardrobe should compliment your facial features. Be prepared for the kinds of emotions and character traits you want to showcase in your eyes and expressions.
Solid Colors are Best: Plain, solid-color tops are ideal, as patterns and busy designs can be distracting and are amplified on camera. Bright colours can also cause unflattering color cast.
Choose Flattering Colors: Solid neutrals work well. Some of my favourite colours to photograph are ivory, light or dark grey, pastels, navy blue, blush, sage, khaki, earthy greens, burgundy, and deep purples - they are timeless and effective for flattering skin tones. Softer, natural & earth tones also ensure the focus is on your beautiful and handsome faces.
Choose Flattering Fabrics: Natural fabrics, silks, leather, wool, cashmere, satin, or blousy fabrics all photograph beautifully.
Avoid Distracting Elements: Steer clear of logos, large patterns, really bright colors, and overly trendy styles that can date your photo or draw unwanted attention.
Silhouette
Fitted is Key: Wear clothes that fit well, as oversized or baggy clothing can make you appear larger and get lost in the fabric.
Tailored Look: Fitted shirts, jackets or blazers, and dresses help with posing and create a slimming effect on camera.
Necklines & Layering
Simple Necklines: Opt for clean, simple necklines like crew necks or modest V-necks, which are universally flattering and frame the face well.
Layering for Depth: Adding a blazer, denim jacket, or simple cardigan over a plain t-shirt can provide depth and hint at different character types.
Less is More
Keep it Simple: Hair & makeup being done is also very important. Photography lightens our features, so you can have a professional makeup artist give you a natural makeup look to accentuate your features, while still keeping it natural, as that is what casting directors want to see. And same thing with hair - clean, and well styled hair (and/or facial hair) makes a huge difference in the success of your portraits. Put your best face forward - It’s all about the details!
Keep it Simple again: Minimalist accessories, like a simple pair of earrings or a classic watch, work best. Large pendants or elaborate jewelry are often cropped out and can be distracting.
Practical Advice
Check Beforehand: Try on your outfits a week before the shoot to ensure they fit and feel good on camera.
* * * Steamed and Prepped: Ensure all options you bring are steamed, on hangars, and ready to wear so your studio time isn’t wasted.
Bring Options: Bring a few looks with different colors and necklines as mentioned above. The best choice can depend on the lighting and background.
I always help to decide for the final looks we are photographing if you are unsure.

Final Thoughts
Posing: I want to make sure you know - you absolutely do not have to stress about posing or photo ideas. I will direct you the whole time so we can get natural looking, beautiful portraits. You just have to show up, let your personality shine through, and we’ll have a great time. If you have a Pinterest board for inspiration, please show me that too before we get started, I am always happy to collaborate.
As always – if you have any other questions just let me know. Otherwise, I will see you very soon!
